SoundSorb® is a durable, free-draining, cementitious material designed for various acoustical and noise abatement purposes. It is a flowable, fireproof material that can be produced in a variety of aesthetic textures and colors. SoundSorb integrates with concrete in structural highway and rail noise barrier designs and can also be used for a variety of other noise wall designs for commercial and residential use. SoundSorb is licensed by Concrete Solutions, Inc. (CSI), which continually seeks out the most cost-effective wall designs and application methods for use with this material. Currently, SoundSorb is primarily integrated into a precast wall design during the pouring and molding process to create a noise abatement barrier for use along highways and railways. Custom-designed panels of SoundSorb can be manufactured and secured with a construction adhesive or secured by other attachment methods providing a retrofit application to an existing wall, whether indoors or outdoors. These lightweight retrofit panels are designed to solve noise attenuation problems in new and existing mass transit systems, as well as for existing highway reflective barriers that augment noise reflective reverberation problems for the surrounding community. Not only is SoundSorb ranked in the acoustical elite category, but it also offers the end user an aesthetically attractive noise wall treatment system. Providing the right texture is important. A unique feature of SoundSorb is that it is flowable and will mirror any precast form liner, such as brick, wood, fractured fin or granite, thus providing an attractive facing for any wall. The Soundsorb material even has the versatility be poured and stamped with an impression on its surface. Custom work is also available; for example, communities may request that their neighborhood name, emblem or symbol be precast into SoundSorb at the development's entrance or at other locations. This ease of low cost custom design allows for residents' involvement with projects by integrating art, such as reptiles, seagulls or stars into the panel designs. SoundSorb can also be colorized through the use of iron oxides during the blending process or by spraying acrylic stain on the completed surface. Coloring noise wall material allows the barrier to blend with its surrounding environment and provides a sense of the place/region. An example would be the use of a brick red color on a project in the eastern US seaboard area where many of the buildings are built of brick or lizards or hot air balloons in Phoenix, Arizona. In addition, CSI believes that SoundSorb is one of the lowest-cost, sound-absorptive, indoor/outdoor materials on the market. The cost efficiencies are achieved by manufacturing and sourcing ingredients locally, as well as by utilizing efficient wall barrier designs and avoiding long distance shipping charges. Lower costs may be achieved when producing full-height monolithic panels, thereby avoiding the larger expenses involved with stacked panel production and installation. The SoundSorb material has a medium slump, allowing for precast flexibility. It can be easily poured into a liner to achieve texture or on the top surface of the structural concrete to allow the texture to be impressed, as previously mentioned. The material's properties afford production of monolithic or full-height panels, resulting in less expense. The cost per square foot varies according to the scope of the wall design and project location, as well as the thickness of the SoundSorb material, to list a few. While SoundSorb is
typically used for highway, railway and retrofit projects, it also has
other acoustical applications. Here is a listing of some of the possibilities: |
